Cuba: Santiago de Cuba – Casa de Diego Velazquez
This is the oldest house in Cuba, built in 1522, by the first governor of the island, Diego Velazquez, it is one of the finest examples of the early Spanish colonial architecture in the Americas. The house is named after the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, who resided here during his tenure on the island. In Cuba, it is known as the Museum of Historical Cuban Atmosphere. The ground floor was used to house a chamber of commerce and where gold was melted, but the top was where Velazquez lived. Today, there is a lot of historic furniture and artifacts, it’s quite an impressive museum that takes you back in time in a country that is already living back in time in a total time warp.
