Cuba: Santiago de Cuba – Casa Granda
Casa Granda is definitely the place to stay in Cuba. This grand historic hotel is located right in the heart of the city and adjacent to the Santiago Cathedral. The massive colonial building was built in 1914 and is one of the major landmarks in the city. Lots of famous politicians, celebrities, and artists stayed here. The hotel attempts to be a five star property, but in Cuba it’s an impossible fit – its glory is in the past, the rooms are mediocre, and amenities are crummy. But the rooftop restaurant and bar are awesome for sunrise and sunset views, and during the night (assuming electricity is not in a blackout in the entire city).
