Cuba: Vinales – Tobacco Farms
All tobacco that goes into Cuban cigars in grown in the Vinales Valley – a pictures hilly area in the west of the country, about a two hour ride from Havana. The farmers grow and dry the tobacco, later selling it to the state-owned tobacco factories. Tobacco dries in wooden sheds for weeks with the right amount of moisture and actually sprayed with additional flavors like lime and mint and such. And of coarse, every tobacco farmer can roll a perfect cigar for you – the inner leaf, the filling leaves, the outer leaf, the wrapper leaf. Till it – press it – cut it – light it up!
