Cyprus: Ancient Paphos & Mosaics
Paphos was one of the most important cities of the Ancient Greece, located on the southwestern corner of Cyprus. Archeological sites abound here – tombs, amphitheaters, columns, living quarters, old castle… But by far the most incredible are ancient mosaic, well preserved after being covered by soil for 17 centuries. The details are amazing, with ancient mythological scenes displayed in large ground-covering mosaic floors. Some are covered from the sun, others are exposed. It could take hours and hours to see all the mosaic rooms – houses of Dionysos, Theseus and Aion, and so on. Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
