Devon Island: Cruising the Lancaster Sound
Lancaster Sound separates Baffin Island and Devon Island. Cruising through it brought stunning panoramas of the icy shore and craggy mountains devoid of any plant or animals life, ice often packing the water completely, and massive icebergs floating by. Calm and serene for most of the journey, the dark waters of the Lancaster Sound invoked stories of first explorers trying to navigate the northwest passage here despite the fact that the Lancaster Sound is ice-covered for most of the year.
