Devon Island: Hiking to Dandas Harbor
Moving further north, Devon Island lies to the north of Baffin Island and is the largest uninhabited island on earth, and 27th largest island overall. This was an action packed outing! First, right after landing, we spotted a group of walruses basking in the sun on a small rocky islet just offshore. Then a nice hike to the top of a hill followers for some ultra-panoramic views and acrobatic picture posing. Then, a nice long hike across barren and desolate tundra toward the Dandas Harbor area. A lot of musk ox bones along the way as well as tony arctic flowers trying to survive. The best part of the hike – a small group of more athletically-inclined people to cover more distance and get better views.
