Djibouti: Hamadryas Baboons on the Roads
Soon after we left Djibouti City and headed north, we encountered hamadryas baboons on the roads. Hamadryas are the northernmost of baboon species, inhabiting countries of the Horn of Africa. They were sacred animals in ancient Egypt and appear in many roles in the religious scripts and drawings. Males are almost double the size of females, with a huge mane of hair, aggressive looks and aggressive behavior. The often jump on cars and steal from open windows or doors.
