Dominica: Boiling Lake

Boiling Lake was the whole reason for me to visit Dominica, it has been on my must-see list for a very long time. A long 4-hour hike (in a torrential downpour that got me totally soaking wet) take s you to a flooded fumarole that is the Boiling Lake. The water in the lake is 92C/197F, so its just short of boiling, the bubbling is more a function of a underwater geyser than boiling. The depth of the lake is 59m/195 feet. The scenery around and along the hike is outright otherworldly with volcanic activity evident everywhere.
