Dem Rep of Congo: Virunga NP – Congo countryside Around the Park

The countryside land surrounding the Virunga National Park is beautiful – towering volcanoes, peaceful villages, smiling people and screaming kids, and endless fields of potatoes and cabbage, and onion – the three main staples here. Volcanic soil is extremely good and people get 3 or even 4 harvests in a calendar year! The tranquility of the landscape is only occasionally spoiled by people with AK47s, canon guns from the war of 2012, and speeding UN vehicles carrying troops that did nothing during the aforementioned war and just observed from a safe distance of their compounds.
