Ecuador: Refugio Paz de las Aves – Other Birds
Ecuador is a birding paradise! With 1,700 species, this small country holds 15% of the world’s bird population. From tiny, vibrant hummingbirds to the massive Andean condor, the diversity is staggering. The birds are so distinct, colorful, and gifted singers. Beyond the rare antpittas and the famous Cock-of-the-rock, we were lucky enough to spot a Short-tailed Nighthawk, Broad-winged Hawk, Golden-headed Quetzal, and even a Black-and-white Owl perched right next to our balcony at night! We saw so many beautiful birds: Red billed parrot, Band tailed pigeon, Golden winged manakin, the black and white, blue tanagers (beautiful singers), white lined tanagers, golden tanagers, red eyed vireos, thick billed euphonia, blackburnian warbler, white capped dipper, yellow bellied seedeater, ornate flycatcher, masked trogons. It was an unforgettable experience.
