Egypt/Sinai: Gulf of Aqaba Coast
Coast Driving north along the Gulf of Aqaba, it’s a neverending landscape of failed hotel development – complex after complex of either grey cement building or fully constructed but empty luxury hotels line the entire coastline. After the success of Sharm el Sheikh, developed poured loads of cash into developing the coast here, until a series of terrorist attacks in Sharm in Sheikh and the downing of a Russian plane pretty much wiped out the tourism flow to Sinai for a while. Then there was a once in a century flood and finally coronavirus. Now it’s a ghost town of empty complexes and a picturesque coastline culminating with a stunning Marsa al Marakh fjord-like bay at the very top of the Bay of Aqaba.
