Egypt: Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan
Old Cataract Hotel is arguably the most famous hotel in Egypt built by Thomas Cool to accommodate Europeans on their “mummy” quests to Egypt. The list of famous celebrities who stayed here include RussianTsar Nicholas II, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Carter, Princess Diana, Queen Noor and Agatha Christie. The latter even found time to write her famous “Death on the Nile” novel here. The hotel is a five-star lavish luxury with Nile views, rich decor, afternoon teas and coffees (at a cost of a three-day meal), and a chance to sit in chairs where rich and famous once had their butts.
