Egypt: Light & sound show at Abu Simbel
With a thinly veiled objective of squeezing extra money from tourists, several major temples offer a light and sound night show where the statues and structures are lit in various lights and images are projecting telling the story of the pharaohs (who actually talk themselves from time to time). While most shows are kitsch, the one at Abu Simbel was spectacular, with the starry night sky above your head and the historic story of the temples being told very accurately. Another bonus – not a single other tourist, so you feel like you are a dignitary visiting Ramses II.
