Egypt: Memphis
Memphis was the capital of the old kingdom of Egypt, the city was founded in a whopping 2250 BC and for centuries was the largest settlement on Earth. Several massive and elaborate temples and building were built in this center of the Egyptian civilization, but today very little remains of it besides a museum displaying several artifacts and a couple archeological sites still digging for the old Memphis. A lot of it got destroyed by time, a lot was pilfered or ended up in Paris and London. If fact, Ottowan ruler of Egypt Mohammad Ali Pasha offered pretty much everything to the British, but they couldn’t take the massive statue of Ramses II now lying in the museum here.
