Equatorial Guinea: Batete Wooden Church
The oldest church in Equatorial Guinea, the Batete Church is built entirely out of wood. It lies in the town of Batete, far in the south of the island, and up on the slope of the mighty volcano towering above it, at the end of a dead end road. Hardly anybody comes to see this church but it’s quite interesting with wooden structure showing its age since construction in 1887. It has an abandoned feel with peeled off paint and decaying wood, yet still quite imposing appearance sitting high over the town of Batete and affording the panoramic views out to the Atlantic ocean.
