Equatorial Guinea: Malabo – Catedral de Santa Isabel

Equatorial Guinea is a former Spanish colony and Spanish is the official language (the only country in Africa speaking Spanish). As such, the old town Malabo boasts spectacular and grand Spanish architecture around the Plaza de Espana and the stunning Catedrál de Santa Isabel. The Cathedral was built in 1887 and had some influence from Anthony Gaudi’s work. The neogothic building is of beautiful peach color with two symmetrical 40m/120ft tall slender towers with a fairy tale clock in between. Even more beautiful is the Plaza de Espana in front of the cathedral – with amazing bright tiles on benches and columns displaying African themes and animals. And more local happy kids posing!
