Equatorial Guinea: Monte Alen National Park
Monte Alen National Park lies in the middle of the mainland part of Equatorial Guinea, a piece of pristine wilderness. On paper, this is almost the holy grail of wildlife watching – there are 105 mammalian species here, 16 primates, 265 birds, and even the Goliath frog – the largest frog in the world. In reality, the park is not maintained or managed, the former lodge lies in ruins and is overgrown by jungle, hiking trails or guides are non-existent, and spotting any animals is almost impossible. Equatorial Guinea continues being a country where bushmeat is still consumed in huge quantities.
