Eritrea: Asmara – Cinema Roma
Italians loved cinemas – they had over a dozen in Asmara during their colonial times. The most iconic of them is Cinema Roma, known for its beautiful Art Deco architecture. Built in the 1930s, it is still a functioning cinema, a place where people come to watch football games, and also a coffee lounge (Eritreans love their macchiatos) . The building features an elegant facade with large windows and the interior maintains a vintage charm of bright red seat with elegant chairs, theater-like layout l, and a large screen. Cinema Roma is a symbol of Asmara’s architectural and cultural richness, and is part of UNESCO World Heritage site.
