Eritrea: Asmara – Tank Cemetery (Revisited)

Eritrea fought a long 30+ year war against Ethiopia for independence, with the heaviest hostilities between 1988-90, ultimately resulting in the Ethiopian defeat and Eritrea becoming the newest independent country in the world at the time. On the outskirts of Asmara there is a massive junkyard of the Ethiopian military equipment seized and destroyed in the war – tanks, armored vehicles, equipment carriers, trucks, and jeeps (all made in the USSR). It’s a giant open air museum of the country’s history.
