Estonia: Tartu
Tartu Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia, after the capital Tallinn. It is the oldest city in Estonia, dating back to the 11th century, and is often considered to be the intellectual capital of the country, since the oldest and biggest university is here – the 17th century University of Tartu. The old town is quite compact, centered around the Raekoja Plata square and a couple of parallel streets. The ornate town hall is tight on the square as a pretty Kissing Students fountain is right in front of it. A bit further out is the massive University of Tartu building, as well as several churches and cathedrals of different denominations.
