Estonia: Sorve Lighthouse on Saaremaa Island
The black and white cylindrical lighthouse stands at the southernmost tip of the Sorve Peninsula at the entrance to the Bay of Riga. It stands guard in a shale pebble beach with water on both sides. There has been a lighthouse here since the 17th century, since the peninsula has an immensely strategic point. Major fighting during WWII has all but destroyed all the fortifications that existed here. The new lighthouse building was constructed in the 1960.
