Forte de Nossa Senhora dos Remedios is the best-preserved and most iconic colonial fortification on Fernando de Noronha. It was built by the Portuguese in 1737 To defend the main island against French, Dutch, and pirate invasions. The white-washed fort is perched high on a hill overlooking Vila dos Remedios, the island’s historic village, with panoramic views of the Atlantic. The fort is star-shaped with massive thick walls, lots of cannons, and a ln imposing central tower. Best place in the island for absolutely stunning sunsets!
