Fernando de Noronha: Rock Crabs

he beaches in Fernando de Noronha have a lot of black rocks and outcropping – a perfect habitat for various species of rock crabs. All these crabs share similar characteristics – they are semi-terrestrial living at the wave edge, have flattened bodies adapted to rocky shoreline and squeezing in crevices, broad walking legs for quick dashes and leaps over uneven terrain. The differences come in colors that are often meant as a camouflage on specific rocks and beaches – from black to green to vibrant red.
