France: Annecy
Annecy is an absolute fairy tale of a town. Located very close to the Switzerland border (35km south from Geneva) on the shores of the Lake Annecy, surrounded by mountains, the town is often called the Venice of the Alps – water channels criss cross the historic old town with beautiful medieval buildings, a mini castle on an island, flower pots everywhere, and swans and ducks swimming the canal waters. Streets are lined up with restaurants serving mostly Swiss food. Further out, the lake shore is packed with boats and tourists enjoying the views.
