France: Avallon

Here’s another fully fortified medieval french town with walls and ramparts surrounding the entire old town with beautiful architectural gems inside – Avallon. Eglise Saint-Lazare is a Romanesque Church from the 12th century, while the Tour de l’Horloge clock tower is from the 15th century and has a passageway of Grand Rue going through it. But just aimlessly roaming around the streets and stopping for a glass of – well, a good local Burgundy wine of course – is perhaps the best way of exploring the small town.
