France: Bayeux Cathedral
Bayeux is a medieval town near the Normandy coast and home to an incredible gothic cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux), replete with gargoyles, spires, and decorated walls and stained-glass windows. The cathedral was consecrated in 1077! More importantly, it was the home for the Bayeux Tapestry (the original has been removed to the museum but the copy is here), a 230 feet long embroidered cloth depicting historical events of the Norman conquest of England on over 50 scenes. The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
