France: Camaret-sur-Mer – Tour Vauban

The Crozon Peninsula is also home to the stunning Tour Vauban (Vaubin Tower) in an equally stunnning seaside town of Camaret-sur-Mer. Vauban was Louis XIV’s master fortress designer and built insane star-shaped fortresses all over France. Tour Vauban tower built here is also know as “Golden Tower” and was erected. The tower was built between 1689 and 1694 on a rocky outcrop at the harbor’s edge – the polygonal structure was armed with 9 cannons and 3 mortars., low-profile, integrated with the landscape, and focused on crossfire. Vauban himself oversaw its first battle in 1694, when Anglo-Dutch forces totaling over 1,500 troops tried to land at nearby beach but were repelled in hours. Beyond the awesome tower fortress is also the 17th century Chapel of Notre-Dame de Rocamadour, several old shipwrecks, and the Camaret-sur-Mer town itself with beautiful harbor and a streets full of restaurants and tights in front of them.
