France: Chateau de Chaumont
Yet another picture-perfect castle from the 11th century – Chateau de Chaumont. Located high up right on the bank of the Loire River, it commands spectacular views toward the river and beyond. The castle itself looks like it came from a fairy tale – with absolutely perfect towers, walls, conical roofs, and flower garden all around. It’s small and compact compared to some other castles in the Loire Valley, yet likely the most beautiful.
