France: La Rochelle – Marche Central

The Marche Central right in the heart of La Rochelle is a must see and experience – a covered market famous for its seafood and particularly oysters. The city of La Rochelle is located near the Marennes-Oleron oyster beds and oyster beds around Ile de Re just offshore, some of France’s most renowned. The market is packed with stalls with fresh, locally sourced oysters, sorted by size and location of origin – all super fresh and delicious! We couldn’t help sampling some. Besides the oysters, there is also fish, cheeses, charcuterie, and mussels and crustaceans – all in an insane variety. There is also an open air market just in front with tons of fresh vegetables and fruits.
