France: l’Épine – Basilique Notre-Dame de l’Épine
This amazing UNESCO-listed church is a unique example of the so-called Flamboyant Gothic style. The gargoyles that adorn the basilica are just insane – dozens and dozens of them – animals and people and fairy tale creatures and various combinations of the above. Supposedly, some of the earlier gargoyles were extremely sexually explicit and were banned and replaced by the church eventually.
