France: Lyon – Notre Dame & Saint-Jean Cathedrals
Two cathedrals are literally on top of each other in Lyon. Saint Jean Cathedral stands in the middle of the old quarter on the Saône River bank and dads to the 12th century – Romanesque architecturally with Gothic element added on the facade (I cant believe I actually know this stuff now). 130m/400ft vertically above it on the hill stand an absolutely grand Basilique Notre Dame, built in 1884. Richly decorated sparkling white exterior is nothing compared to absolutely lavish gold and mosaics overloaded interior – your neck will hurt from looking at the ceiling admiring all this.
