Metz is another French historic town with multi thousand year history – Celtic, Roman, German, French. It’s dominated by a spectacular yellow sand stone Saint Stephen Cathedral, which has the largest expanse of stained glass windows in the world and adorned outside with amazing gargoyles and sculptures. The oldest church in France – Saint Pierre Basilica is also here. As well as the oldest opera house in France, still working. The old town is surrounded by canals filled with swans and bright with flowers.
