France: Montbelliard
Montbelliard dates back to 983 AD, when it was town within the Holy Roman Empire. For most of its medieval history it was associated with the rule of the Dukes of Württemberg, hence its Protestant and Germanic influences. The French Revolution integrated it into France in 1793. The main attraction here is Chateau des Ducs de Wurtemberg castle overlooking the town, with stunning views of the surrounding valleys.
