France: Normandy American Cemetery Memorial
A little east of the Omaha Beach is the American Cemetery Memorial for the soldiers who died during the D-Day landing as well as elsewhere in France during the WWII. It’s a somber and austere memorial with only a few monuments and sculptures, the rest being simple white crosses and sparkling bright green grass. It’s actually managed by the US government and relatives of the fallen ones come here to remember them. All in all nearly 10,000 graves are here on over 172 acres of land right above the Omaha Beach.
