France: Orange – Theatre Antique
Orange is famous for its Roman Antique Theater – the biggest and best preserved in the world. It was built in the early 1st century and is a massive structure in a side of the mountain in the center of the town. The stage is set against a semi circle of the seating area, and also has a monument and columns in the middle. For its time, the theater was very advanced and even used machinery to move the props. Performances usually lasted all day long.
