France: Skiing at Chamonix
Chamonix is one of the most acclaimed and spectacular ski resorts in the world and is also one of the oldest. The town of Chamonix lies in a valley between massive ranges with several 14k ft (4k meters) peaks, including the Mont Blanc. Ranges on both sides of the Chamonix valley are peppered with ski lifts. The most spectacular is Les Grand Montets ski area where a gondola takes you up to 3842 meters into an insane alpine panorama of The French Alps in absolutely all directions – peaks, glaciers, rocks, ice, snow as far as the eye can see. And then you ski down from here all the way to the bottom!
