France: Vitre Chateau
Another picture-perfect castle and fortress in the town of Vitre – this one is totally looking like it came from a fairy-tale – with conical towers reaching into the sky, double drawbridge, moat, and even Vitre flags and symbolics . It was built in the 11th century at the highest point in the fertile valley and was the site of several battles. It was the second castle in France to be certified as a historic monument in 1872 (Mont St Michel was first).
