French Polynesia/Bora Bora: WWII Coastal Defense Guns

Several weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor, an armada of 9 ships and 5000 men travelled to Bora Bora to establish a defense outpost in the war chess game against the Japanese in the Pacific theater. 8 massive naval cannon on swivel were installed on high points all around the tiny island. They are still there, it takes a steep 1/2 hour hike to get to the two biggest one with stunning lagoon and panorama all around the rusting WWII relics. These days, they are seemingly pointing at the luxury bungalows of the ultra expensive resorts.
