Galapagos: Giant Tortoises Breeding Center
Giant tortoises are bred and nurtured in hundreds at this facility to protect the little baby tortoises from predators (especially introduced ones like cats), and then released into the wild. Isabella island has 5 volcanoes and each one has its own distinct species of giant tortoises. At the center, you can see (and interact) with them as small as a palm as well as humongous 150-year old giants. When one of the volcanoes erupted in 2005, 18 species were saved from the eruption at this facility.
