Gambia: Kachikally Crocodile Pool
There are three sacred crocodile pools in Gambia with the largest being Kachinkally near Banjul. It’s a small circular natural pond or pool stocked to the rim with Nile crocodiles, between 80-100 live inside. People consider them sacred (in fact, the crocodile is prominently featured in the Gambian coins) and feed them with fish. The crocs are totally docile and free to roam anywhere, they are not aggressive and one can touch them even. Still, those teeth don’t look particularly inviting for petting.
