Georgia: Borjomi

Anybody from the former Soviet Union grew up drinking the famous Borjomi mineral water from Georgia. Borjomi town is famous for its naturally carbonated mineral water that is renowned for its unique taste and health benefits, derived from its very high mineral content. The Borjomi springs have been used for over a thousand years, and the water’s popularity grew manyfold during the Russian Empire and Soviet Union eras, becoming a staple in households and known for its therapeutic qualities. The water is sourced from volcanic springs that are 1,500 years old, and it is bottled without any chemical processing. The Borjomi springs are located in the Borjomi Gorge within the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. These springs are fed by deep volcanic aquifers, which heat the water to temperatures between 38-41°C (100-106°F). The water rises to the surface naturally, enriched with a variety of minerals such as sodium, bicarbonates, calcium, magnesium, and fluorine. We walked all around the Borjomi park complex, and drank from two springs.
