Germany: Bad Kissingen
Bad Kissingen is a spa town in Lower Franconia and a UNESCO World Heritage site for its supposedly healing mineral springs. The springs have been used since the 16th century, but Bad Kissingen truly flourished in the 19th century under Bavarian King Ludwig I, who transformed it into a glamorous resort. It became a hotspot for Europe’s top: Empress Elisabeth of Austria , Tsar Alexander II of Russia, and King Ludwig II were frequent visitors. Things to see here are Spa Gardens and Promenade Halls, Regentenbau Hall & Casino, as all as plenty of grand architecture in the main town.
