Fernsehturm aka the Berlin TV Tower was erected in 1969 in East Berlin as a symbol of the communist might of the GDR. Rising 358m/1207ft, this is to this date the tallest structure in Germany (it was fourth tallest free-standing structure in the work when built). It is considered a true icon and emblem of Berlin, perhaps in par with the Brandenburg Gates or the Berlin Wall. The slender tower has an observation platform and a restaurant in its sphere at the elevation of 203m, making it the second highest publicly accessible observation platform in Germany. The panoramic windows offer a complete 360 views of Berlin.
