Germany: Bremen – Old Town
Most of us are familiar with Bremen from Brothers Grimm’s Bremen Musicians fairy tale. In fact, a statue of the donkey, dog, cat and rooster is standing right in the central Market Square. But there is also a statue of Bremen Roland (city protector) erected in 1404 as well as the insanely ornate city hall built in 1405. Both the city hall and the Roland statue are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. But even beyond the central square there are tons of other beautiful gothic architecture buildings as well as 13th century St Peter’s cathedral that you could climb a spiral staircase of hundreds of steep steps all the way to the top, just to find out that there is no views to be had from there!
