Germany: Dresden
Dresden is one of the most spectacular Baroque cities of the world, it’s filled with lavish palaces, churches, and museums. While seriously bombed out in WWII, Dresden has been meticulously restored to its old 18th century royal glory. The massive baroque Frauenkirche Church is one of the most spectacular churches in Europe as are the nearby Dresden Royal Palace and Zwinger Palace. There are several large old town squares as well, like the Theaterplatz, Neumatkt, and Altmarkt. Stunning views across the Elba river as well from the high ground! And here and there you stumble on old vestiges of the socialist DDR – like an old Trabant car or Konzertsaal.
