Germany: Mayday ’17 “True Rave” in Dortmund
Before EDM festivals started popping up everywhere and electronic dance music swept the world over, there were two original rave festivals that started in Germany in 1991 – Love Parade and Mayday. Love Parade sadly no longer exists, but Mayday still prospers. Every year the night into May 1, a large covered arena in Dortmund is transformed into an amazing sound and light show welcoming deejay of all styles into its multiple dance stages and the main arena. This year’s theme “True Rave” brought together everybody – from trance legends of ATB and Markus Schulz to classic techno of Sven Vath and Chris Liebing to hardstyle of Frontliner and Korsakoff to pounding psy trance of newcomer Neelix. And the the legends of the 90s happy hardcore – Dune, Raver’s Nature, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo – all played on the main stage. A full night of true rave well into sunrise (the last set finished 9am).
