Germany: Schwerin Castle
An incredible fairytale castle in the Baltic city of Schwerin was modeled on the French Chateau Chambord and built in 1845 (although there was a fortress here on an island in the middle of the lake dating back as far as 973 AD). Architecturally, it’s a total smorgasbord of styles of Baroque, Renaissance, and Gothic. The grounds in front of the palace include a beautiful Schlossgarten with sculptures, archways, and manicured lawns and flowers. A stunning castle all around, although slightly crowded and a wing is under construction or renovation.
