Germany: Suhl
Suhl is a small town in the heart of Thuringian Forest, dating back early 14th century and long a center of mining and metallurgy. Firearms manufacturing became by far the largest industry in the 17th century and local gunsmiths were world famous. There is a spectacular firearms museum in Suhl (next post), as well as an auto museum, and a pedestrian city center with half-timbered houses, particularly in the Altstadt (Old Town) area, the gothic St. Mary’s Church (Marienkirche) dating back to the 14th century. an impressive Renaissance-style building of the Town Hall (Rathaus). And Suhl sits in a valley surrounded by beautiful forest.
