Ghana: Axim – Fort Santo António
Yet another fort along the Ghana’s Gold Coast – Fort Santo António was built by the Portuguese in 1515, later captured by the Dutch in 1642, to eventually become British in 1872. Unlike other forts, this one is though to haven’t been used a slave trading post but rather as an entry point to the Dutch Africa and an military outpost against the British and locals. This fort is totally tourist-free and you get a spectacular panorama of fishing boats and pounding waves along the coast.
