Greece: Athens – Acropolis
Acropolis means “high city”. Towering above Athens on a massive hill and a stone platform, Acropolis houses the magnificent Parthenon temple built in 438 BC (UNESCO WHS), while the slopes have the amphitheaters of the Theater of Dionysus and the Odeon of Herodes. The views from Acropolis are stunning 360 Athens below you. Crowds are a bit stifling at this site, as is the July heat.
